Are you living your dream?

image

This post is for all of you out there who are just not ready to settle down. The idea of a regular 9-5 makes your soul quiver with dread.

You may have just graduated, be stuck in a dead end job or just had a change of mind. For whatever reason, you have the travel bug. You’ve been bitten and infected. We could even say you’re rabid with wanderlust. I’m with you!

But maybe you don’t have the money, the time or you need to start your career and get on with your life. Just don’t believe these excuses that you are telling yourself!!

For whatever reason, you don’t need to get sucked in to the mind numbing routine that so many do if its not what you want. Sure, it works for some people. But there must be more out there, right?

Of course, maybe one day you’ll want to settle down and have a house, get married, have kids, a career and a steady income. There’s nothing wrong with that. But if you’re not ready, you’re not ready. It’s just how it is. And you don’t need to rush into it.

Some people need to spread their wings, there is so much out there to experience. Think of all the amazing stories we can tell our children. We ate cockroaches in Cambodia, climbed a mountain in Nepal, wrestled a polar bear in the Arctic. Or is the Antarctic? Whatever you wanna do, just go and do it!

A common question I have encountered from family members is, ‘When are you going to get a real job?’

A real job. How about I have a real life and be free and liberated and travel the world and sleep in hostels with strangers and cockroaches. Ok, maybe not cockroaches. But if I want to I can!

The point is, we all have our own story and our own journey to make in life. So if you find yourself in a rut with these grandiose dreams that never seem to materialise, slap yourself and say, ‘I’m doing it!’

Then make a plan, save some money, get on a plane and there you go! Try it out, even if it doesn’t go to plan you’ll probably learn a few life lessons on the way. There’s only one way to find out!

On your death bed you’re only going to regret the things that you didn’t do. I don’t know who said that quote but it’s a good one!

I am currently planning and saving for my big trip that I feel like I have waited my whole life for. It’s going to take a lot of saving and planning but it’s possible!

I believe in everything I have written and I hope you can relate or find some motivation in this post.

Leave a comment if you’re also planning your dream trip or if you have any tips or motivation for me!

Lets make adventures happen 🙂

  1. Nice post; I like the points you made and the encouragement to others! I actually am married and have a steady job, but they really only enhance my ability to travel and explore. My husband shares my passion for adventure, and my job allows me the money and earned time off to travel. I don’t have kids and don’t want kids, but I do have senior dogs that I have to consider (reliable petsitters, etc). There are variations on the dream…the important thing is that you make it work for you however that looks (single, married, kids, no kids, 9 to 5 job, working remotely, etc). As for the big trip, we are looking forward to our 5th anniversary next year in Hawaii and a trip the following year to South Africa (cage diving with sharks!). Keep up the adventures!

    1. Thanks for your comment.
I agree, living our dreams come in all forms. You’re proof that having a ‘proper’ job does not mean you cannot still travel, and obviously having the funds available is handy!
You’re future trips sound amazing, looking forward I can read about them on your blog! Especially the cage diving with sharks!

  3. Yeah! Indeed your words were pretty motivation. I can fairly relate to whatever that must have been in your mind while writing this coz I have a fascination for travelling too, and have a dream in mind to travel to “Antarctica”. I know it’s quite weird to hear but I wanna go to that place.

  4. Practicality (i.e., money) tends to provide a sobering counterpoint to your dreams – but I’m in full agreement about “just doing it” and sacrificing what you need to in order to reach those dreams. Safe journeys!

  5. Wooow. I am so happy I discoverd your blog. So many things you said in this blog post I want to quote. One of them is ” There’s nothing wrong with that. But if you’re not ready, you’re not ready. It’s just how it is. And you don’t need to rush into it.” I am also not ready to settle. One of my worst nightmares is being normal. I wanna live an extraordinary life. Looking forward to more posts in this blog and I just followed you
